Delwyn started practicing yoga 27 years ago, when it was not nearly as much a part of mainstream culture, as it is today.
Her teacher was Michael Byron McKay, who was one of N.Z.’s first Iyengar Yoga teachers.
She taught her first class about 3 years later, as a student of Monica Haar, and stood in for her when she visited Sweden on holiday. She enjoyed the experience so much that she the took on a regular class at Herne Bay Yoga.
As Delwyn’s 3 children grew, she began to teach more under the guidance of Monica Haar and Melodie Batchelor, who both helped her prepare to sit the various Iyengar certificates. She now hold a J I 3 level teaching certificate.
Her learning continued by attending both teacher training and workshop with senior teachers from overseas, most notably for her, Peter Thompson, Peter Scott and Pixie Lillas, all Australians. She has also been privileged to go to India twice and attend convention with Iyengar family members in New Zealand, Australia and China.
Delwyn’s practice has and always is her “home” place. A place of connection to things within her and with the purpose of being functioning in the world. Her teaching gives her an opportunity to share her passion with others. Delwyn’s teaching philosophy is that to teach well you only need to know one more thing than the student, and be prepared to share that knowledge “wholeheartedly and sincerely”.
Delwyn teaches Iyengar at Breathing Space Yoga.
